A Guide for Seniors, with Comfort from the Bible

ree

1. Will you wake up again?

Yes. The Bible promises that those who die will awaken to new life.

  • “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” (Ephesians 5:14)

  • “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven… and the dead in Christ will rise first.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

  • “Jesus said… ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though they die.’” (John 11:25)

2. What will you see?

You may see the Lord and the gathering of His people.

  • “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment…” (Jude 1:14-15)

  • “They will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.” (Mark 13:26)

  • “Your eyes will see the King in His beauty.” (Isaiah 33:17)

3. Will it be like dreaming?

The Bible compares resurrection to waking from sleep.

  • “Your dead shall live… Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust.” (Isaiah 26:19)

  • “Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake.” (Daniel 12:2)

  • “We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51)

4. Will the things you see be real?

Yes. The afterlife is described as a real, joyful existence.

  • “To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7)

  • “He will wipe away every tear… There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” (Revelation 21:4)

  • “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)

5. Where will you be?

Believers will be at home with the Lord in heaven.

  • “We know that our body—the tent we live in here on earth—will be destroyed. But… God will have a home for us… in heaven that will continue forever.” (2 Corinthians 5:1-10)

  • “In my Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2-3)

  • “Today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)
