Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Some battles don’t start with what happens around us, but with what tries to take hold within us—fear, temptation, pride, bitterness, discouragement. Scripture gives a clear order for victory: submit to God, then resist the devil. Resistance isn’t willpower alone; it’s standing under God’s authority and refusing the enemy a foothold.

How to Resist (Practically)
Submit first: start with prayer and surrender—“Lord, Your will, not mine.”
Stand on truth: answer lies with God’s Word (read it, speak it, believe it).
Close doors: remove habits, media, and relationships that feed temptation.
Stay in the light: confess quickly and ask for support—darkness loses power when exposed.
Choose obedience today: resistance often looks like one faithful decision at a time.
Alt text (for accessibility): “Person holding an open Bible, standing firm as a dark shadow retreats, representing resisting the devil.”
Prayer
Father, I submit myself to You today. Strengthen me to resist every lie and temptation and help me to stand in Your truth. Guard my mind, guide my steps, and let the enemy have no place in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection question: Where do you need to submit to God first so you can resist more firmly?
