Jesus Using Sign Language Do You Hear The Warning, Can you see the signs?! (Matthew 24:3) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world? The Lord is speaking to us with signs telling us that he is coming soon. He is giving us signs with instructions on how to read them and how to be ready for his return. He is also telling us the consequences we will suffer if we ignore them. Signs play a crucial role in ensuring safety. They help to alert individuals to potential dangers, hazards, and risks. By providing clear and concise information, signs can help to prevent accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. It is important to pay attention to signs and take appropriate action to avoid harm. Signs are used to convey information or to issue commands. When signs are given, if they are ignored, he or she will venture into danger or even fall into some type of destruction. Many people ignore the sign language given by the Lord and Ezekiel 12:2 tells us why. People are ignoring the signs of the last days because they are dwelling in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. Signs alert us when to do something. Being told by Jesus about the signs that will be before his return, should give excitement to us that know him, because we know how to escape the coming crisis. These same signs should bring horror to those that don’t know him, because of the destruction that is going to befall them because they ignored them. Listen up! The Lord's last day warnings are here, and they demand your attention! Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. The first sign of his coming back in the last days, is found in verse 4 of our text, and that is to “Take heed.” Taking heed means for us to watch carefully, be on the lookout for something, be careful, He said, “Take heed, that no man deceive you.” People are deceived or led astray with the use of words that wicked people are using to twist or with words which have double meanings. The greatest deceiver is the devil himself. From the beginning he deceived Eve by saying, “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” When what God said was, “Of every tree of the garden you mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shalt not eat of it: for in the day that you eatest thereof you shalt surely die.” To make a lie believable, there must be a measure of truth in it. Today deception comes to us by that same great deceiver using the multiple various translations of the scriptures that we have; defining in the translator’s own words what they perceive the meaning of what God is saying. The apostle Paul gives us an example of how 2 men misled people through misinterpretation of the word of God. That misleading is shown in 2 Timothy 2:17-18, And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Peter spoke in 2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy (the scripture) came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Don’t be deceived while reading those other translations of the bible because some of them have left out or twisted the meaning of what the Lord has said. Someone said that the bible is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. Matthew 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Jesus continues to tell us explaining the sign how those men, who are working as agents of the devil, are going to deceive us. He said, “For many shall come in my name.” These deceivers shall be saying, I am Christ; (calling themselves the Messiah or the anointed one). “and shall deceive many.” Jesus told us that they will be wearing the name of Christ, calling themselves Christians while they themselves don’t believe the word of God, the virgin birth, nor the divinity of Jesus. Yet they are saying they are of Christ, or that they are Christians when they are not, and many shall be deceived. Some of you here can remember Jim Jones and his deception, killing over 900, including some 300 who were age 17 and under. Jesus is warning us using sign language. Look at your neighbor and ask, can you see the signs? Matthew 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Jesus gave us his second sign of his return. This second sign is unfolding in our lives today. Look at the Russian President as he illegally invades a country and threatens nuclear war if there is any interference with his plan. Look at North Korea as they continue to evaluate their rocket’s capable of destroying many. Not only them but look at Iran and their growth in the field of nuclear capability wanting to wipe Israel off the map. China is threatening Taiwan even today. Jesus said you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars; for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: but we as his children should not let those happenings trouble us. He said these things must be done before his return, but the end is not yet. Jesus is warning us using sign language. Look at your neighbor and ask, can you see the signs? This sign also included Famine, pestilences, and earthquakes. The third sign Jesus continues with is that there shall be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. When I was a child, we had the worldwide project called Feed the Children, and they would show us pictures of places like Africa, India, Pakistan, showing us starving and sick children. But today you don’t have to look overseas to see these afflictions, look in your own neighborhood. People right next door to you are starving, sick, penniless, and without ample clothing to wear. A few days ago when you went to the grocery store you would find empty shelves. Eggs, milk, and bread are priced so high that it is incredible. We are not allowed to have chickens or cows within the city limits to help combat these situations; which brings about a necessity to pay those prices, causing many to go without. Even the church is in a dilemma because people have stopped attending most services because of fear, as if the church is the only place where they can catch Covid, causing the storehouse of the Lord to be empty. Jesus told us about the pestilences that were going to happen. Pestilences are fatal epidemics, diseases that happen to people worldwide, called pandemics. He told us that people will be sick with all types of diseases. In the recent past there were pestilences like the Bubonic Plague, Smallpox, SARS, Avian Flu, Ebola, Polio, and that’s just to name a few. But today in our season we have pestilences of Heart Disease, Cancer, Alzheimer and Dementia, Diabetes, Chronic lower respiratory diseases – COVID, and the list could go on and on. Jesus is warning us using sign language. Can you see the signs? The Word of God is being fulfilled. Television has been a big influence by pushing information to the public on getting the covid-19 vaccination. My own take on that is, you have to be careful of what you see and hear on television. Just knowing all that is said and done on television is not reality. A man told me the other day that he heard about a situation in the Amish community where a survey was done on why the Amish community was not affected with Covid. The Amish man was asked the question why his community was not affected by Covid. His answer was, “Because we don’t watch television.” You’ll put that together later. Included in the third sign is Jesus’s warning about the earthquakes that are going to happen before his return. In March of 2005, an earthquake of 8.6 magnitude killed 1,300 people in Indonesia. In January of 2010 in Haiti an earthquake killed over 100,000 people. In 2022 a 9.0 magnitude earthquake killed 18,400 people in Japan. In June of 2022 in Afghanistan an earthquake killed 1,100 people, and in February of 2023 in Turkey and Syria an earthquake in magnitude 7.8 killed above 50,000 people. The frequency and scale of damage continues to increase. Again, he said that these are just the beginning of sorrows. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Can you see the signs? I am not talking about things that will come, I am talking of things that have just recently happened. That’s why I am saying we are not only in the last days, but we are in the last hours of the coming of the Lord Jesus. Matthew 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. The fourth sign that Jesus told us that would happen before he return is when he said in Matthew 24:9, Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. Today in countries such as Afghanistan, North Korea, Pakistan, and many others; Christians are being afflicted and killed for the gospel of Christ. An affliction here in America is when churches were closed in 2022 because the world said to do so. But many of the world’s events were allowed to continue. Football, basketball, and soccer games were still being played, and other events where thousands of people gathered still took place while the doors of churches were demanded to be shut. We the people here in America are being killed because of hate crimes, by people shooting randomly on the streets, in workplaces, malls, grocery stores and churches, shooting and killing dozens of people. Jesus warned us that we shall be afflicted, some of us killed, and we shall be hated of all people for His name’s sake. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Can you see the signs? Matthew 24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. Sign number five that Jesus gave us of his return is found in Matthew 24:10. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. In the recent past there was fear of the KKK, but now we have gangs like Aryan Nations, Skinheads, Borderkeeppers, Black Power groups, New Black Panther Party, Nation of Islam, The LGBTQ community, and the list goes on with many more groups. The LGBTQ community betrays and hates us because we will not embrace their deviant lifestyle. They betray us on the job by complaining to human resources that he wasn’t called Josephine by his coworker when his mother named him Joe. We get fired and new laws are twisted and passed to cover their deviancy. We as a country have allowed gays and homosexuals to come out of the closets many of whom are seeking popularity and deviant notoriety by associating with such a group. They are parading and holding rallies, marching in the streets of our cities, with cameras focusing in on men kissing men, and women kissing women, openly declaring that they are married to someone of the same sex, plus they are raising children in that type of environment. Marriage should be between a man and a woman. The LGBTQ community, this deviant group has convinced government to pass laws using the laws that gave the Negro rights. Using those rights that were written to bring equality to the Negro, the LGBTQ community are using those rights, as the planks in their foul platform, and Congress is twisting laws in their favor. You were born into a race of people. The Negros were born black. No one and none had a choice as to which race we were born into. These rights were passed to bring equality to a race of people, but gays and homosexuals are not a race of people, they have a choice to be who they are, and no law should be twisted or passed giving them the rights as if they were a race of people. Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Meet, meaning being suitably fit or proper, the inevitable consequences and penalty of their wrong-doing and going astray, which was [their] fitting retribution, or just punishment. Many homosexual persons have come down with AIDS, HIV and Monkeypox, these are meet or suitable punishments that God has allowed. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, abounding iniquity (as noted in one of the signs happening in the days before his coming), fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. If God does not do something about this homosexual agenda, He owes a genuine and sincere apology to Sodom and Gomorrah. I love every one of them, and no, they were not born that way, they made a choice to take on that type of lifestyle, and they can be delivered from that way of living, they can be saved and set free by changing their minds and giving their life to Jesus. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Can you see the signs? Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. The sixth sign that Jesus gave us of his return is in Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Jesus tells us the second time what to expect by repeating in verse 11 what was said in verse 5, speaking of deceivers and false prophets, that they shall deceive many with their signs and wonders. In Matthew 24:25 Jesus said, Behold, I have told you before. He is saying, “Look, I have shown you the sign.” Look at these false prophets, and these false preachers. The preachers have stopped preaching the message of the bloody gospel and they are preaching a gospel of wealth and prosperity. Philippians 3:18d-19 tells me, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. They are telling the people that the Lord has delayed his coming. But I heard the word of God say that the day would come and there would be a famine in the land, not a famine of bread or water but for the hearing of the word of God. When the Lord’s word is repeated, it is best that we pay close attention to it. The bible says in Hebrews, Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. In 2022 the Oak Lawn United Methodist Church appointed an LGBTQ person as pastor. In the First Baptist church of Greenville, South Carolina, Pastor David Uth of the Southern Baptist Convention; in the wake of widespread criticism of this abominable gay-affirming event; (the church then asked homosexuals to come forward to be anointed and have hands laid upon them), David Uth prayed that God would strike discerning Christians dead if they criticized him. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Ask your neighbor, can you see the signs? Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. The seventh and final sign that Jesus gave us of his return is in Matthew 24:12 and Jesus says, And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. One of the many causes of trouble in the world is that iniquity is abounding, not only here in America but around this entire world. Iniquity is immoral or clearly unfair behavior, which is lawlessness. Iniquity is abounding in America and is being shown through the passage of laws that are causing millions of unborn babies to be aborted because of immoral sex conduct through fornication or adultery. When I was younger; women had more respect of themselves and cared about their reputation. Today the women will publicly and without any shame admit that they have lain with several men and will openly call the men’s names. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Can you see the signs? Iniquity that is abounding comes from the outlaws, the cartels, the corrupt government officials, and gangs of many names, they are rampant throughout the world. Since people don’t love nor respect themselves, how do you expect them to love or respect you? Jesus said that the love of many shall wax cold. Love is fervent affection, meaning it is intense and hot, but one of the signs that we are living in the last days is that there would be no love or affection for each other. Matthew 10:36 says, And a man's foes shall be them of his own household. Look at those twin sisters who killed their children. Can you see that we are living in the last days and that Jesus is on his way back? I look forward to his return daily. The word of God tells us to take heed, watch and pray for we know not when the time is. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Can you see the signs? People, this same Jesus who was born in Bethlehem of Judea, is coming back. This same Jesus who taught in the temple in Jerusalem, his words are still as true now as they were then. He is coming back. This same Jesus who was baptized by John the Baptist, he is coming back. This same Jesus who healed the sick and raised the dead, this same Jesus who fed thousands, he is coming back. He came the first time to bring salvation into a lost and a rebellious world, to redeem us back to his father’s kingdom as brothers and sisters of himself. But on the next return he is not coming as a babe lying in a manger, nor as our savior, but he is coming to bring judgement. For if the word spoken by angels lasted throughout the ages, and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? HEBREWS 2:3 KJV Hang on in there. For the bible says, he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel, which is the Good News; of the kingdom of God, shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. As one of the television preachers would say, Get Ready, Get Ready, Get Ready. You can see the signs so get ready. How can we be ready? The bible tells us in Matthew 25:13, Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. Stop, Look, and Listen. Stop your sinning and repent, look at the way you are living and repent, and Listen to the word of God and repent, for you don’t know when the time is that Jesus is coming back. The church is sleeping at a dangerous time. People are living as if Jesus is not going to return. They are ignoring the signs. Knowing the time, that now it is high time to wake up out of sleep: for now our salvation is nearer than we first believed. “Romans 13:11 The night is about over, the new day is dawning, let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armour of light. “Romans 13:12 Let us live in a right way, like people who are expecting Jesus to come at any moment. Let us not have wild parties or be drunk as they were in the days of Noah. Let us not be involved in sexual sin or in any kind of immoral behavior. But let us be like the Lord Jesus Christ, so that when people see us and what we do, they will see Christ. Don't think about how to satisfy the desires of the flesh. Be careful. Hold firmly to your faith. Have courage and be strong. Do everything in love. Put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of the hope of salvation. For God did not choose us to suffer his anger. “1 Thessalonians 5:9 But God chose us to have salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it begins at us first, what shall it be like for them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Control yourselves and be careful! Because the devil is your enemy, and he goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to attack and destroy. He is constantly giving you the opportunity to find and take drugs and alcohol. The enemy, the devil, is bombarding us with sexual advertisements in every avenue of our lives and opening doors for you to commit fornication and adultery. On the television and in our government, they are underhandedly telling our children that it is ok to have two mothers or two fathers. That abomination is openly being taught and pushed into society by the highest leaders of our country, instilling it into the minds of our innocent children who will grow up thinking that that type of lifestyle is all right. University is teaching our youth that the Word of God is a myth and they are refusing to let scripture be openly taught in the curriculum, but they can teach the Quran without any backlash. Refuse to follow the devil. Jesus is warning us using sign language, telling us he’s coming back. Look over and ask your neighbor, can you see the signs? Stand strong in your faith. You know that your brothers and sisters all over the world are having the same sufferings that you have. The bible tells us that he that will live godly shall suffer persecutions. Yes, you will suffer for a short time. But Jesus is going to rapture the church in the middle of the air. Then; Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: the sun will refuse to give his light, and the moon, shall run down in blood, and the stars, are going to fall from heaven like leaves falling from trees, the mountains shall skip as rams and the hills as little lambs, they will be telling men there is no hiding place. The skies are going to be rolled shut like a scroll. Then shall appear the sign of the Son of man: every eye shall see Him, and then shall all the people of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds with power and great glory. “Mark 13:26 He chose us to share in His glory, and if you know Him you will go back with him riding on a cloud. Now you ask me, what will be the sign, how will I know him when he comes back? You will know him from the scars on his brow from the thorny crown that they placed on his head. You will know him from the scars that are on his back where they whipped him, tearing his flesh from the bones. You will know that it is Jesus from the puncture wound on his side, where they pierced him with the spear. You shall know him, from the holes in his feet where they nailed him to that old rugged cross. What will be the sign, how will I know him when he returns? You will know that it is the same Jesus who stepped from the Mount of Olives onto that celestial cloud, stepping off Terra Firma from the finite into the infinite. You will know that it is Jesus when you see him riding on that cloud, coming with the sound of the trumpets announcing his arrival. Therefore, be ready: If you are not ready when he returns you shall be cast into that lake that is burning with fire and brimstone, and there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. What will be the sign, how will I know it is Jesus when he returns? The song writer tells us with words from his song, he says, I shall know him, I shall know him, when redeemed, by his side I shall stand. I shall know him, I shall know him, by the prints of the nails in his hands.

Abide 2.jpg

Abide In Your Calling

Abide in your calling (1 Corinthians 7:20) Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. King Solomon made Jeroboam ruler over all the Israeli men that were building the temple in Jerusalem because he was an industrious man. One day Jeroboam was outside of the city and while he was there he met a prophet named Ahijah. Ahijah had just gotten a new garment, and when he met Jeroboam in the field he tore the garment into twelve pieces, and he told Jeroboam to take ten of the pieces of the garment because they represented the ten tribes that God was taking away from the hand of king Solomon. When king Solomon heard about this, he began to look for Jeroboam, but Jeroboam had escaped to Egypt to save his life. Later King Soloman died, and his son Rehoboam became king in his stead. When he became king he took council from his young colleagues to raise the taxes over the people. The people didn’t like the higher taxes. Jeroboam heard about the death of King Solomon and that Rehoboam was king, so he went back to Jerusalem, but because of the decision that Rehoboam the son of king Solomon had made, the elders of Israel decided to not be Rehoboam’s subjects. So Israel divided. The prophet Ahijah had told Jeroboam that God had given him to be king over Israel, although not the entire Israeli kingdom but over the ten tribes in the north. And when the kingdom divided, the elders of the ten tribes made Jeroboam their king. The northern kingdom of Israel was made up of ten tribes, and the southern kingdom of Judah was one tribe, the other tribe was the tribe of Levi who were in charge of the temple, they remained in Jerusalem. Jeroboam’s appointment as king had stipulations. He had to hearken to all the commands that he was being given, and the first one was the he had to walk in the way of the Lord, to do that which was right in God’s sight, and to keep God’s words and his commandments, just like king David did. And if he would do that, God said he would be with him and would build him a house or a kingdom as he did for David. So as Jeroboam reigned over the northern kingdom he built cities to live in. He proposed in his heart that he didn’t want the people to go up to Jerusalem where the temple was to worship, but he wanted the people to remain in the northern kingdom so as to remain faithful to his kingdom. So he took counsel and built two temples and placed in them two golden calves, and told the people not to go to Jerusalem to worship but to go into the temples that he had built in the towns of Bethel and Dan. Because he was king, the people went and worshipped before those idol gods; which is a sin against God. Because there were no sons of Levi in northern Israel, Jeroboam made priest of anybody he could find even of the lowest of the people, even he began to occupy the duties of a priest. He wasn’t abiding in his calling. He built altars in those temples, and he ordained feasts like the feasts that the people would attend in Jerusalem. Jeroboam transgressed his office as king, he himself had begun to make sacrifices to these idols which is a sin against God. God saw it and He began to intervene. God called an unnamed prophet out of Judah to confront Jeroboam about what he was doing. When the prophet arrived he found Jeroboam standing next to the altar with his hand on the altar. Instead of the prophet prophesying against Jeroboam, he prophesied against the altar. When Jeroboam heard the prophecy he took his hand off the altar and told his men to take hold of the prophet. Now the hand that Jeroboam had on the altar, as they were restraining the man of God, Jeroboam’s hand dried up and he couldn’t pull his arm back down. Look at what happened to Jeroboam, the man that God had called, when he went against what he was called to do. If you are faithful in what God calls you to do, you will be blessed. If you are not faithful you will not be blessed. Many years passed and in 2 Chronicles 26:1 this time it is a king of Judah. Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. At the age of sixteen you don’t know much about the world. Even though you yourself think you know everything. But because of the bloodline, Uzziah, being the son of King Amaziah, the people made him king. Many churches today are being pastored by under qualified people because of them being the son and in some cases daughters of the demised pastor. The people made Uzziah king over them. He was not anointed as priest or prophet, but as king. As long as he remained in his office as king, he prospered. For the bible says, that he reigned for fifty-two years. During the beginning of his reign he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord. He sought counsel from the prophet. He was prosperous in war against his enemies the Philistines, the Arabians, the Ammonites and he was strengthened exceedingly. He built towers in Jerusalem, dug many wells in the desert to water his many cattle and he loved gardening, and gardens need water. His army was great; around three hundred and seven thousand five hundred, which was a mighty power against the enemy. Uzziah made them shields, spears, helmets, body armour, bows and arrows, and slingshots. During his reign as king in Jerusalem he made engines or machines to throw heavy rocks, and to shoot multiple arrows. Because the enemy didn’t have such equipment Uzziah’s name became known among them. He became strong. But because of the strength that he had, his heart was lifted up, he became arrogant and proud, and the pride caused him to transgress against the Lord God. The Lord wants us to prosper but he wants us to remain faithful in prosperity. Proud and prosperous people believe that they can do whatever they want, when they want, and how they want. But being prosperous does not place you above the law of man or of God. In his prideful state, Uzziah went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar. But the priest Azariah and eight other big strong priests went in after him and stopped him. These priests told king Uzziah that it was not his place to burn incents in the house of the Lord, which was the duty for those that are consecrated by God, the priest only. These priests told him to leave the sanctuary, because he had trespassed, in other word you are out of your place. God is not going to honor you for what you are doing. Burning incents in the temple of God is not the duty of a king but of a priest. But still being lifted up in pride thinking that I am king and I can do what I want to he got angry. While he was holding the incense in the censer, he was stricken with leprosy in his forehead in front of them in the house of the Lord, standing beside the altar of incense. When Azariah the chief priest and the other priest saw that he was leprous they threw him out, Uzziah himself also was in a hurry to leave because his forehead had begun to immediately rot. When God calls on you to do his will and you accept the calling, you are to abide in your calling. If God called you to be a preacher, then preach. If your calling is to be a helper, then help, and don’t try to be the preacher. God knows what he is doing when he calls you into the body. (1 Corinthians 12:18) But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. (1 Corinthians 7:20) Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. As a natural man or woman you may feel unqualified for the task that God has called you to do, You may think that you are inadequate for the job. God knows who he wants to do work for Him. So abide in your calling. God called Moses who used the excuse that he was slow of speech. But God qualified him to lead millions of people out of Egypt. God called David, a shepherd who knew nothing about being a king, He called him from the fields of Bethlehem, and made him to sit on the throne as king over Israel. God called Jeremiah who used the excuse that he was only a boy, “But, Lord GOD said, "Before I made you in your mother's womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I chose you for a special work. I chose you to be a prophet to the nations." "Don't say, 'I am only a boy.' You must go everywhere I send you and say everything I tell you to say. Don't be afraid of anyone. I am with you, and I will protect you." Then the LORD reached out with his hand and touched his mouth. He said to him, "Jeremiah, I am putting my words in your mouth. Today I have put you in charge of nations and kingdoms. You will pull up and tear down. You will destroy and overthrow. You will build up and plant." (Jeremiah 1:5-10) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (Romans 8:28-30) So Abide in your calling. The teaching about the cross seems foolish to those who are lost. But to us who are being saved it is the power of God. As the Scriptures say, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will confuse the understanding of the intelligent." So what does this say about the philosopher, the law expert, or anyone in this world who is skilled in making clever arguments? God has made the wisdom of the world look foolish. This is what God in his wisdom decided: Since the world did not find him through its own wisdom, he used the message that sounds foolish to save those who believe it. The Jews ask for miraculous signs, and the Greeks want wisdom. But this is the message we tell everyone: Christ was killed on a cross, and he rose from the dead on the third day. This message is a problem for Jews, and to other people it is nonsense. But Christ is God's power and wisdom to the people God has chosen, both Jews and Greeks. Even the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom. Even the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Brothers and sisters, God chose you to be his. Think about that! Few of you were wise in the way the world judges wisdom. Few of you had great influence, and few of you came from important families. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. He chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. And God chose what the world thinks is not important—what the world hates and thinks is nothing. He chose these to destroy what the world thinks is important. God did this so that no one can stand before him and boast about anything. It is God who has made and called you to be part of Christ Jesus’ body. And Christ has become for us wisdom from God. He is the reason we are right with God and pure enough to be in his presence. Christ is the one who set us free from sin. So, as the Scriptures say, "Whoever boasts should boast only about the Lord." (1 Corinthians 1:18-31) It is Christ who called you to a specific duty in his body. So abide in your calling.

Come and Dine

Come And DineElder Anthony Harvey

Come and Dine (John 21:3 KJV) Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, “We also go with thee.” They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. (John 21:12 KJV) Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. It happened a little while after Jesus was risen from the dead that as a couple of his disciples were walking on their way home, on the road to Emmaus. Jesus, in his glorified body, after the resurrection, began to walk with them. They were intensely talking about the circumstances that had recently occurred, in so much so that they didn't recognize the Lord. Much of the time we can get so involved in current events until we can’t see the Lord's hand in it. While they were walking and discussing the events that had happened in the past 3 days, and that was the crucifixion of Jesus, they continued rehearsing the horrendous death that they had witnessed, but not only that, they were perplexed that the body of Jesus, was not in the grave where he had been laid. Jesus joined in the conversation asking them questions, and they asked him had he not heard of the big news going around Jerusalem. So, he began expounding to them, from the scriptures, why these events had to happen. When they arrived at their destination, they invited him to come inside with them. He went inside and sat down with them to eat. They gave him bread; and when he given thanks over the bread, he broke it; and only then did they recognize that it was the Lord. Jesus had not been physically amongst his disciples in a few days, and Peter, became restless, and decided to go back to his old lifestyle. When you have had Jesus in your life and now you don’t have him in your life, reverting back to old habits is easy. So, Peter says to the other disciples that were with him, “I’m going fishing;” and they all decided to go fishing with him. You can’t expect to be successful in whatever you undertake when you are out of the will of God. The story begins today as the disciples had just finished an unproductive night of fishing. They had fished all night and had nothing to show for their efforts. The prize is not given to someone that gives up, you have to finish your race or your assignment if you want to be paid. I admonish you to do the work that God has given you to do until it is finished, because he will show up when you least expect him to. These seven disciples didn’t have their mind on Jesus, they were wondering why they weren’t catching fish, and when they gave up all hope of catching any fish they headed back home. As they were coming back to the shore, Jesus was standing on the bank, and He asked them if they had caught any fish. They answered no. No is not what Jesus wants to hear from you when it concerns your livelihood, He want to hear that you are prospering and being fruitful. His desire is to hear you say, "Yes Lord". When it comes to your means of support, He will supply all your every needs according to his riches in glory. Since they didn't answer yes; he told them to cast their net on the right side of their boat. The bible says in (Isaiah 1:19 KJV) If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land. They obeyed and threw the net on the right side of the ship, and they caught 153 great fish. John recognized that this event was not a natural occurrence but that it had a miraculous distinction about it. He knew that it was not through their knowledge of fishing that this was done but this was caused by the hand of someone who controls the elements of the world. He looked up and he recognized Jesus, and he told the others that were with him that it was Jesus who told them to cast their net on the right side of the ship. When Peter heard it was Jesus, he jumped in the water, swam to the shore, and met him there. As the others arrived in the boat they looked and saw fish cooking. Jesus then invited them to breakfast of fish and bread. I’m reading today from the English Standard Version. (John 21:12 ESV) Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. These fishermen were tired and weary of their work and to get a good free breakfast was a bonus for them. Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. These seven men were familiar with Jesus, and he was no stranger to them. (John 21:13 ESV) Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. Jesus gave parables in two ways. He either taught about the parable and then demonstrated it, or he demonstrated it and then taught about it. He had already taught them that the son of man came not to be served but to serve. (Matthew 20:28) and we see him here demonstrating this today by serving them breakfast. (John 21:14 ESV) This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. The first time he came to them he showed himself alive, but Thomas was not with them. The second time 8 days later he showed himself again and this time Thomas was present. So, this appearance is the third time he revealed himself in his glorified body to them. (John 21:15 ESV) When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” I can only speculate on what Jesus meant when he was talking about these. More than these what? Do you love me more than you love these fish? Do you love me more than these other disciples do? What the these are, that Jesus was asking about is not explained; but Peter knew. Jesus knew that Peter had left his ministerial duties behind and that he was now living in a backslidden condition. Peter had returned to his old way of living, which was fishing, and others decided to follow him. So, the Lord had to get Peter re-focused on the mission that he had taught him in the past three years. Jesus used this breakfast as a time of restoration for Peter because Peter was sinking deeper into worldly living. He was a backslider. Jesus is married to the backslider. (Jeremiah 3:14 KJV) Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you. The love that Jesus had for Peter, and the love that Peter, the backslider, had for Jesus is shown here by them having a conversation with one another. If you can talk about a situation, you can usually work it out. After Peter's cursing and denying of Jesus, after he backslid, Mark said in the 14th chapter and verse seventy-two that Peter thought about it and wept. I’m a witness, in that backsliding and being separated from the Christ will cause you to weep. As a backslider you feel all alone. You are surrounded by people, but your soul is in distress. You have turned away from the best friend you have ever had. He didn't leave you; you left him. You tried to fit in with people of the world, but as a member of the body of Christ, there is a mark on you. People will ask you, what are you doing here? You don't belong with us. You try to be with the members of the body of Christ, but you feel uncomfortable with them, and you feel out of place. You may know the songs of Zion, You may know when the word of God is rightly divided, but it is not reaching your spirit because you are disconnected from fellowship with the Lord. Like Peter did, you may keep trying to run with the brethren, they can tell something is wrong, but nobody will confront you and tell you that the life you are living is wrong. But there is a children song that you learned as a child that says, Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so. He is still pleading with you to come back to him. Those he loves he chastise. Jesus didn't put you in the situation you find yourself in, but he allowed it so. He wants your soul to be saved, so that you can be reclaimed by him. As a backslider you are on your way to a burning hell. You may think that you are all right until you stand and see yourself in the spiritual mirror. Have you had breakfast with the Lord? Are you a backslider like Peter was? You may answer; I'm still going to church; I’m still spending time together with church folk. I’m still serving on the finance committee; I still serve as an associate minister or a deacon. I’ve maintained my position as an usher. I still even sing in the choir. But Jesus is asking you the question maybe for the first time: Sally, Bill, or whatever he calls you, do you love me? How are you going to answer him? Do you love me more than these? These what? More than these fine clothes. More than these positions you hold. Do you love me more than these football or basketball teams or players, do you love me more than these cars, these houses, and titles that people call you? Do you love me more than these? The Lord wants your answer to be Yes Lord. If you are a backslider, your soul is at risk. You are treading on dangerous ground. The Lord is standing there calling you back to him. He is asking you, saying Sally, Jim, or whatever your name is, Do you love me? Be truthful and say Lord, I'm empty, I've been away from you too long. If you just listen to his words and do what he says for you to do, he will reclaim you. If you have to do like Peter did and jump off the boat that is full of worldly goods, jump off the ship that your friends are in full of worldliness and swim to meet him. He is waiting to hear you say Yes Lord. Back to verse 15- Notice what Jesus called him, Simon, son of John. This salutation could have shocked Peter, because he was not use to Jesus calling him by his full given name. Jesus usually called him Peter, the name that he affectionately gave him at their first meeting. When they first met Jesus saw a quality in Simon, a quality great enough to make him a close friend, and this friendship was close enough to give him a nickname of Cephas or Peter. So, when Peter heard his full name maybe it stunned him a bit. And hearing this shocking question also dazed him. Peter was known in the past to speak without thinking it through, and in his quick-tongue manner he casually answered him Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. Peter is saying, I love you, as a close friend, but maybe not like it was when we first met, because I denied you. “He (Jesus) said to him, “Feed my lambs.” I just fed you; I still love you; I want you to do as I have done for you. Jesus is saying here "Peter, the little ones, the babies, those that are the weakest of the flock, they need to be fed." Peter you need to refocus on the duty I gave you to do. Now you, the mature sheep of the flock, listen to me. A shepherd does not have paps or breasts for the baby lambs to nurse. The nourishment for these baby lambs must come from the mothers until these little lambs are able to eat the grass along with the older sheep. It is the shepherd’s responsibility to make sure the mother is eating well so that she can produce the milk for her baby. The same holds true in the church. The new ones coming in, they can't digest the food from the shepherd, the pastor, right away. They need to hear the testimonies from the congregation which is their milk. The milk from these testimonies is the telling of how Jesus kept you safe from the wolves of this world. These testimonies give these little one’s nourishment and strength; these testimonies give these little ones a reason to continue seeking for the Lord. These testimonies fill their spiritual bellies; these testimonies fill their hearts and gives them encouragement and a reason to keep coming until they have reached maturity, until they get saved and are able to eat from the pasture, or until they are able to digest what the pastor is saying. Jesus knew Peter well enough to give him an opportunity to think his answer through before he answered in the off the top of the head manner he was known to make. So, while Peter is sitting here with a full stomach, face to face with Jesus, I believe many precious memories could have crossed his mind. I think Peter is wondering, Why is Jesus asking me a question like that? Peter is thinking and saying in his heart, I remember my first meeting with Jesus’ days ago when I was out fishing with the boys. We fished all day long that day too and we didn't catch anything. Kinda like it was last night, and Jesus did a miracle that time for us also. We caught so many fish until our nets were breaking, and our ship was sinking, and I had to call for help from my partners on the other ship. We filled both ships to the brim, and we had a time bringing those ships to shore. (See Luke 5:4-11) That's when Jesus called me to the ministry and gave me the nickname Peter. After that haul of fish, I stopped fishing and followed this man named Jesus. Is that why he is asking me if I love him? How could I not love him for all he has done for me? So, my answer to him is Yes Lord. (John 21:16 ESV) He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter begins to think again. He said when I answered him the first time, he said to me to Feed my lambs. Is he reminding me of the time when the children were trying to get to him and me and the other disciples were keeping them away? or is he referring to the little boy's sack lunch that we had to borrow so that the 5,000 men could be fed. What is he talking about feeding my lambs? I'm not educated enough to know what he is telling me to do. All I know is fishing. I’ve been fishing since my childhood, and he’s telling me to do the work of a shepherd. I don't think I'm qualified to be a shepherd. Or could it be when after we had eaten the Passover meal and he went and started washing our feet and when he came to me, I told him that he shouldn't be doing that and that I was not going to let him wash my feet. He said to me if I don't wash your feet, you have no part with me. So, I said Yes Lord to him then. I’ll answer almost like I did the first time but this time with a little more volume in my voice. He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He (Jesus) said to him, “Tend my sheep.” Peter begins to think again about the days he had spent with Jesus. First, he tells me to feed his lambs. Now he's talking about tending to his sheep. What is he talking about when he says, tend my sheep? I remember when the tax collector came and was talking to me about whether Jesus paid taxes or not. I opened my mouth, and I said, yes, he does. When I got back to the house Jesus didn't give me a chance to tell him what happened. He just taught me a lesson about who should be taxed and who shouldn't be taxed. Then he sent me to do what I loved to do before he came into my life. He sent me fishing. But that time I caught a fish that had enough money in its mouth to pay not only taxes for Jesus, but enough for me to pay mine too. So, Jesus tended me. He looked after my needs. Also, just the other night, just before they came and arrested him, we had gone into the garden after we had eaten supper and were so full. Jesus told us to watch with him, but man I was very tired and sleepy, so I sat down and rested myself against a rock. I thought I was watching but my eyes closed and before I knew it, I was fast asleep. Jesus came and had to wake me up three times. He tended to me; he watched over me while I slept. Is he telling me to watch over his flock while they sleep? I guess so. Look at today. I was out all night long, doing what I wanted to do with my buddies. We were on our way home, broke, busted, and disgusted. We had nothing, no fish to show our wives to prove to them we were not out having fun. But Jesus tended us. He served us an unexpected breakfast. When I leave here, I can sell my portion of fish and have money in my pocket. Maybe that’s what he means when he says tend my sheep. He is telling me to feed them and give them their daily needs. Do You Love Me? What do I answer? Peter made up his mind and said Yes Lord. I love you. (John 21:17 ESV) He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved he was saddened and hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. The Lord is giving you a test today and the test has only three questions. I advise you to study your lesson carefully. There is only (1) one answer for all three questions. Here is what your answer should be. Yes Lord. If you answer Yes Lord to the questions on the test that means you passed the test. Do you love me? If you answer Yes Lord. That means that when you saw a hungry person you gave them food to eat. You fed Jesus’ little lambs. You took them in and gave them a meal both naturally and spiritually. You taught them about how I left my throne in glory and led them out of Egypt- led them out of sin. You actually made them a meal and didn't give them one of those microwaved, frozen food, that kind of meal. You went to the cookbook, which is your bible, and prepared for them a real meal of meat and bread. In other words, you studied what you were going to say to them. Do you love me? If you answer Yes Lord, that means that when that person was thirsty you gave them water to drink. You showed my sheep how to receive and drink living water. You led them to salvation. Do you love me? If you answer Yes Lord, that means when I was a stranger you didn't turn me away. You tended me, you took me in and fed me the word of God and showed me how to live a holy life. Do you love me? If you answer Yes Lord, that means that when I was naked running through the world without being properly clothed, you showed me how to clothe myself with humility. You taught me how to be clothed with a meek and quite spirit. You showed me how to clothe myself by putting on Jesus. You showed me how to put on bowels of mercies, and to be clothed with the robe of kindness. You taught them how to be girdled with humbleness of mind; you outfitted them with the belt of meekness and long suffering. Do you love me? If you answer Yes Lord, that means that when I was sick you tended to me. When I was in jail you visited me, you came to my rescue. If you love me, feed my sheep. If the sheep are fed, they will not stray. Fed sheep get full, and when they are full, they will lie down in green pastures. The shepherd has given them constant care. The shepherd has walked over the pasture removing all the harmful plants. In other word he has given them the nourishment of the word of God. If sheep are fed, they will follow the shepherd. Fed sheep knows their shepherd’s voice. Fed sheep know that the shepherd will protect them from harm and danger. If sheep are fed, they won’t be sick and weak. Fed sheep have a nutritious diet; they receive strength from the good pasture. If the flies and gnats which are the problems and distresses of daily living, are pestering them, causing them worry and concern, they know that the shepherd is going to anoint their heads with oil, shooing away those pests. If sheep are fed, they will willingly give of themselves. The shepherd won’t have to beg them to pay their tithes and to give their offerings. The sheep will give of their increase willingly. Their increase is their wool, which is their tithe. The wool will be full and strong because of a good nutritious diet. Fed sheep will give of their increase and their increase is their milk, their testimonies of how God provided food when there was no money to buy food for the children. The increase is their testimonies of how God kept a roof over their head when there was no money left to pay the rent or the car note. The fed sheep will give freewill offerings, they give willingly. The milk will be full of rich cream because of a good diet, and that rich milk makes the lamb strong. If sheep are fed, they will produce healthy offspring, this is of their increase. A fed church will continue to grow. The little lambs will continue to come for more milk. They will be jumping and playing but they will be subjective to the shepherd because he carried them in his arms over the rough places in life. The Lord told Peter, when you get converted, strengthen your brothers. Peter is repeating what Jesus told him. He says feed, tend, nurture, guard, and guide the flock of God. That is your responsibility. Don’t do it by forcing them or by constraining them, but do it willingly; not dishonorably, not motivated by money, but do it eagerly, cheerfully, and God through the sheep will give you your reward. Likewise, you he-goats and rams of the flock, those who are not the shepherd but may be a church official; Stop your pushing and shoving for positions. Stop your goading and thrusting with your horns. Be careful how you treat the shepherd and God’s little ones, because God is keeping record. Submit yourselves to the spiritual leaders of the church--giving them due respect and yielding to their godly counsel. Clothe yourselves with humility. For God is against the proud but he gives grace to the humble. (Psalms 75:4-10 KJV) I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. If you love me, feed my sheep. Then Jesus said unto him, Follow me. If you are following, you are not in front. The following means you are walking after him. You are walking in his footsteps. By Jesus being your good shepherd, he will lead you into good pastures. Jesus, Mary’s baby, Jesus the lamb of God, that lamb that was sacrificed on Calvary. He is calling you back today, a little while after His resurrection because you have strayed and gone back to doing what you used to do, and He is listening for you to say, Yes Lord. He is waiting on you; to follow him and he will make you fisher of men. Come on and say Yes Lord, I hear you calling me. Come in and let us dine together.

Be Careful How You Treat Lazarus

Be Careful How You Treat Lazarus (John 11:1) Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. This sermon will have a twist of history the Lord revealed to me. This sermon begins in the town of Bethany, in the home of Martha the busy homemaker, with Mary the compassionate one that anointed Jesus’ body with the precious ointment, and Lazarus the one Jesus raised from the dead. This is a well-known story, but I want to explore it again with you at this time. Lazarus the brother of Martha and Mary got sick, and his sisters sent word to Jesus of his sickness. Jesus received the message and when he pondered on it a while he told those around him that the sickness would not end in death, but with the glorification of the Son of God. The writer of this gospel, John, told us that Jesus loved this family, but after receiving the word that Lazarus was sick, he stayed two days before he decided to go to them. Then he said to his followers, let’s go back to Judea. They had left Judea earlier because after Jesus’ preaching the people had decided to stone him. This decision perplexed the disciples, and they questioned his motive for returning to a hostile environment. Jesus told them that their friend Lazarus was sleeping and that he was going to wake him up. The disciples knew that Lazarus was sick and if he was sleeping, he must have been doing better. Jesus then explained to them that Lazarus was dead. Jesus said to them that he was glad that he was not there when he died, but we are going there any ways so that you may believe. The town of Bethany was a small place near to Jerusalem and Martha and Mary had friends that were with them to comfort them concerning the death of their brother. They didn’t have text message nor e-mail capability in those days and how Martha got the word that Jesus was near town is not recorded. Nevertheless, the word reached her, and she went to Jesus and in her character, she began to criticize Jesus for not coming to them when they had told him that Lazarus was sick. She said to him If you had come when we called for you our brother wouldn’t have died. She continued with, But I know, that even now, whatsoever you wilt ask of God, God will give it to you. When you really have a relationship with Jesus, you know that what is impossible becomes possible. It doesn’t matter what problem you may have even unto death; Jesus is able to make it turn out alright. If you believe that say, Amen. Jesus didn’t ignore her criticism of the situation; he merely said to her, your brother will rise again. Martha’s acknowledgement of the statement was gauged from a futuristic point of view. I know that in the resurrection in the last day I’ll see him again. Even when you think you know all there is to know about Jesus, he reveals himself to you in an unusual way. He showed her who he really is, and that is that he is really I AM of the scriptures. I AM the resurrection, not just a resurrection. I AM life, not just life, but life. We know that our sister Martha was saved because of her confession of faith, and with she returned to her home and told her sister Mary that Jesus had asked about her. Jesus had not yet entered the town of Bethany but was on the outskirts of the place where he had talked to Martha, and Mary got up and quickly went to where he was. If you want something from the Lord, then you must go to where he is. She recited word for word what her sister Martha had told him and that is Lord if you had come when we told you Lazarus was sick, he would still be alive. The people that had been with Martha and Mary at the house had followed Mary to Jesus. Sometimes it may take a procession to the cemetery before people see the Lord. Jesus had no trouble displaying his love for his friends and he lifted his voice and wept. Jesus went to the graveyard and called Lazarus by name and Lazarus was raised from the dead. That’s just the beginning of our story. John tells us that Martha, the busy homemaker, was serving at another supper, and Jesus and Lazarus were present. Go with me to (John 12:9) Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. When something out of the ordinary happens, it takes a while for it to settle down and so it was with the raising of Lazarus from the dead. People were curious and wanted to see this miracle man. This reminds me of Evangelist S. E. Mitchell, after the doctors had pronounced him dead his wife went to his bedside and pulled back the sheet that had covered his head and prayed the prayer of faith and Elder Mitchell came back to life. That’s a true story that happened in my lifetime. There is no secret to what God can do. Back to Lazarus This family was wealthy. I say that because Jesus and his disciples were guest at their home on several occasions, and they were able to give dinner parties with lots of important guest present. Not only that but we see that Mary in verse three of this same chapter had taken a very costly bottle of oil and had anointed Jesus and this upset some of the people there. (John 12:9-11) Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. Be Careful How You Treat Lazarus Lazarus, as I stated before, was wealthy. Of him being wealthy there were many so-called friends. When you have money people like to hang around you. Lazarus became a great witness for the Lord, with his testimony of being raised from the dead; he could have caused many to turn to the Lord for salvation. In my mind’s eye, Lazarus could have become a pastor of a congregation because every day he was glad to talk about how that he was physically dead, and how he heard the voice of God even though he had been dead for four days. Some of you under the sound of my voice have been dead in sin for a long time. Somebody is praying for you; they are sending a message to Jesus on your behalf. Jesus may not come when you want him to, but he is never too late. Jesus will come right on time. Lazarus out lived his sisters Martha and Mary. When Death came to the name of Lazarus on his list; he had to step back and take a second look. He would skip over that name because he said this name must be here in error, because I know that he died a while ago. I must have forgotten to strike his name off my list. Lazarus got old and feeble, needing someone to help him along the way; but home health care is not cheap. It cost you something to have nurses and caretakers coming to your home. Lazarus spent much or all his money on food and utilities. Lazarus noticed some bed sores that came on his body that wouldn’t heal and like the woman with the issue of blood he had to spend his money on doctors but let me tell you people there is no medical cure for old age. Lazarus got sick again with the illness that had killed him before. You don’t see anywhere in the scripture that Jesus healed him of his sickness. So, this reoccurring sickness was serious. Those that had seen him in this condition before began to pray and the answer to their prayers was delayed. It’s discouraging to pray and not get an answer right away when the situation looks like it’ll end in death. You wonder where are you, Lord? Lazarus sold his home to get money to pay for the everyday cost of living. With everything going out and nothing coming in it don’t take long and you are broke. So, in my opinion… The scripture picks the story up again and says (Luke 16:20-21) And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at this rich man’s gate. The question comes to my mind as to who laid him at the gate. Could it have been those that had fared sumptuously every day that attended the feasts that he and his sisters had provided? Could it have been some of the church members that he had prayed for and cared for throughout his ministry in their time of need? Somebody that knew him had laid him there; for the bible says that he was laid at the rich man’s gate. Lazarus could be anybody. Lazarus could be your aged mother or father and because of your busy life you decided to lay them at the gate of a nursing facility, making them someone else’s responsibility. I want to caution you today to Be careful how you treat Lazarus. Lazarus could be your neighbor or some other acquaintance of yours that need some food and instead of you providing the food from your pantry; you send them to the food bank to get the crumbs. But Be careful how you treat Lazarus. Lazarus could be your pastor, who have shepherded you for several years, and you decided that because he has gotten old and constantly repeats himself, that you want a younger and more educated preacher to take his place. And instead of praying for him or giving him a much-needed anniversary, you leave the church just when he really could have used your support. Be careful how you treat Lazarus. His preaching had disturbed the political establishment, and they took him and had locked him in jail, and you put your own label on the accusation, and you don’t visit him because if you visit you must condone what he has done. Be careful how you treat Lazarus. I don’t consider this Lazarus story to be merely a parable because a name was given, and the name is Lazarus. In a parable it says a certain man had two sons, or a certain sower went out to sow. But in this situation not only was a name given but also an address. The address was the rich man’s gate in Judea. Now because Lazarus ran out of money, he became a beggar and was forsaken by his so-called friends. The bible says in (Ecclesiastes 10:19c) but money answereth all things. So, as you can see no money no help from man. Lazarus looked like a person with leprosy because he was sick and full of sores. When you have festering ulcers like Job and Lazarus, people don’t want to be around you, because that decaying flesh puts out a very bad odor. So to get him out of sight and out of mind he was laid at the rich man’s gate to beg for comfort and a friend. Be careful how you treat Lazarus. Don’t let the dogs take your place of friendship like they did for Lazarus. For him to receive a little bit of comfort the bible states that the dogs licked his sores. But I admonish you today to be Careful How You Treat Lazarus, because one of these old days you are going to see him again. You can’t live long being sick and hungry and living on crumbs. Therefore, it came to pass that the beggar Lazarus died. The bible says in (Psalms 116:15) Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. God refused to let human hands touch him again. Lazarus had already been swaddled from head to foot with grave clothes when he was dead before. So, God dispatched heavenly pallbearers down from heaven to go and pick up his body. They asked the Lord what must we do with him, and He said bring him and lay him in the bosom of Abraham. Not only did Lazarus die, but the rich man also died, and the scripture says he was buried. The rich man had a funeral. His burial was foreseen by the preacher in (Ecclesiastes 8:10) And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. I heard a cry from the belly of Hell when the rich man looked up and saw Lazarus (Luke 16:24) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But I heard Abraham say, Son, How did you treat Lazarus when you were on the other side? Don’t misunderstand this story, being poor is not a ticket to paradise, and neither is being rich a delivery label to hell. Be careful how you treat Lazarus because I heard the word saying there is going to be a great separation of the sheep from the goats. The sheep will be on the right and the goats on the left and they shall never get together anymore. (Matthew 25:34) Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: (Matthew 25:35) For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: (Matthew 25:36) Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (Matthew 25:42) For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: (Matthew 25:43) I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. (Matthew 25:44) Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we not do these things? (Matthew 25:45) Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as you didn’t treat your Lazarus right, you did it unto me. (Matthew 25:46) And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. I say to you, Be careful how you treat Lazarus for you will see him again.

He Called Me His Friend

He called Me His Friend (Proverbs 18:24) A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. (John 15:15) Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Pray A friend is a person who you have gotten to know. In order to get to know someone you have to watch them, and you have to ask them questions about themselves. For them to be your friend you have to have information about them. By spending time with a person and listening to their conversation it gives you information about them, and with the information you have gained, you can decide if they are the type of person you want to spend your time with. Hearing what someone tells you about a person does not let you know the person you are getting information about. People have lost valuable friendships, listening to what others say about a person you want to get to know. To become friends with someone, watch what they do. Are they doing the things you like to do? Are they going to places you like to go? Becoming friends is like having a brother or sister in your life, but somehow a friend is closer to you. Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” In a friendship there is a mutual bond of affection between the two of you. Mutual means there is something experienced by each of the two parties with or toward the other. In a friendship there is a bond, and a bond is a thing that ties something or fastens things together. In a friendship you have a mutual bond of affection toward one another. In the book of John 14:15 Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” If you are to become a friend of Jesus, then you will love him and do the things he says. Friends have a mutual relationship and understanding. In a friendship you are not a servant to the other party of this friendship. You are not the only one doing, going, and getting things, because while you are away from them you don’t know what they are doing. In a friendship things are done together. Therefore, Jesus said in (John 15:15) “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” In a friendship you get to know the other parties reputation. What is their upbringing? What were they taught at home? What are their family values? It is best to get to know the persons background before becoming their friend. Don’t misunderstand what I am saying, just because their father is an alcoholic, does not mean they are one. But the potential for being an alcoholic is there. Just because their siblings are wayward doesn't mean they are wayward, but the potential is there. Remember the saying, “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.” Not knowing a person’s background and you being with them can get you in a lifetime of trouble. What did Jesus know about the men who he was choosing to become his friends and later his disciples? When Jesus came out of the wilderness after being baptized by John the Baptist and fasting; he began to choose some friends that he wanted to be with. Jesus chose Simon, and he gave him the surname or nickname of Peter, which stuck with him. Peter translates to rock; we’d probably call him Rocky today. When you get to know your friends, you sometimes give them nicknames; mostly they are nicknamed after their character as it was with Peter. Then you have James and John who he surnamed or nicknamed, Sons of Thunder. When you look at the scriptures, you will see that these three men became very close friends of Jesus, somewhat of an inter-circle of friends. In John 1:47-50 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. Friends don’t always have to agree with each other. Close friends will tell you if your decision is wrong. Peter at times disagreed with Jesus. But the love remained. After Jesus had not been with them for a few days after the resurrection and before he ascended back to heaven, I believe that Peter backslides and wanted to return to his old lifestyle of being a fisherman. Jesus had to reel him back in. He performed another miracle of providing a multitude of fish for them after they had fished all night and caught nothing. He fed Peter and the other disciples, but he called Peter off to the side and gave him the opportunity to return to the relationship they had had before he walked with him on a daily basis and now he was not physically with him all the time. His words of compassion to him were, “Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?” When he called him by his full name, I think that shocked Peter, because he had become accustomed to being called by Peter. When your parents call you by your full name you know that something isn’t right. At the first meeting of Jesus with Peter, Jesus performed a miracle of a great catch of fish. When Peter followed him Peter saw Jesus raise people from the dead. He had seen Jesus cast out demonic spirits, open blind eyes, heal the lepers. He saw him transfigured on the mountain. As a friend, when you see the traits of the person who you have been with, you know they are them. They could have dyed their hair a different color. They could have changed their appearance in some way but by their actions you know it is them. Jesus showed his friendship to several others throughout his ministry. One example is with a family in the town of Bethany. It was the family of Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. He had a bond of mutual affection with them. He and his disciples had stayed at their home several times. While preaching in another town Jesus received a message that was sent to him from the sisters of Lazarus. It said, “He whom thou lovest is sick.” Not only had Lazarus been sick, but in the meantime, he died. You have probably heard that it’s not good to speak evil of the dead, but Jesus said in “John 11:15 “And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless, let us go unto him.” It must have been troubling for the disciples to hear Jesus speak such words about such a close friend. Saying, “I am glad for your sakes that I was not there.” But a friend will come when their friends are in need. Jesus went to them to show them his friendship. Martha met him before he reached Bethany. Listen at Martha’s subtle rebuke. These words coming from her broken heart; saying, “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” You can speak sharply to friends at times when you feel they have hurt you in some way. Then you have the words of the sister Mary echoing the words of Martha. “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” These words touched Jesus’ heart. Showing his love for this family openly, He didn’t mind people seeing his outward expression of love he had for them; and John recorded in John 11:35 it says; “Jesus wept.” And then the Jews said, “Behold how he loved him.” What did the disciples know about Jesus? Before I began with what his friends the disciples knew about him, let me show you what others were saying about him. They said that he was a devil, calling him Beelzebub. They said that he was a winebibber and a friend of sinners. Those statements were from people who were not his friends. They were spoken by people who did not have a relationship with him. What did the people that had a relationship with him say about him? Some called him their healer, because he healed them from blindness, deafness, from all types of infirmities. Some of the people called him their deliverer because he had delivered them from demonic oppression, from leprosy, and from being stoned for acts of adultery. But he asked his friends; “who do people say I am.” They repeated what people were saying about him. Someone had called him John the Baptist:, some said he was, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He asked them since I have been with you for such amount of time whom do you say I am. But those who were his friends called him Rabi, for that he was. And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Having Jesus as a friend they had to get to know him through observation, asking him questions about himself, interacting with him, and through fellowship. How can you establish a relationship with Jesus and not be just an acquaintance of his. Now that you know something of Jesus, does he know you? To let him know something about you, Start by telling him where you were born. I’m not talking about your natural birth, I’m talking to you about your spiritual birth, your eternal self. Where and when were you born of the spirit? I’m talking about the spiritual you; that’s the real you. Jesus said to Nicodemus, “You must be born of the water and of the spirit.” If you have not been born of the spirit, then I don’t know you. Tell Jesus about what kind of work you do? For whom do you work? He is not concerned about whether you are a carpenter or a clerk of some sort. He is asking for whom are you really working? If you are spending all your time working only for temporal gain, then your labor is in vain. You’ve got to put your time in working for the Lord. Are you Jesus’ friend? If you are his friend, then you know him, and he knows you. If you are Jesus’ friend then you will obey and keep his command. You will keep his commands because you trust what he tells you. You keep his command because you love him and because he saved you from your sins. He chose you to be his friend before the foundation of the world. You became his friend because John 5:16 says, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you.” Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: You didn’t choose him. If you are his friend then you trust him and when he chooses you, you will come. Jesus called Zacchaeus when he was walking through the town of Jericho. He saw him in a tree, and he called him down out of the tree, and he went home with him, and they became friends. If you are going to be his friend when he sends you somewhere, will you be as willing to go; as Isaiah was, and you will willingly trust him and say, ‘Lord here am I send me.’ If you are his friend you will go. When he says do this; you do it. If you are Jesus’ friend, then you will speak about him to others. Friends mention each other’s name in conversations. When you are talking to other people, somehow an experience you have had with Jesus will come up, and Jesus becomes known by the person you are talking to before ever meeting him. And when the person you were talking to happens to meet Jesus for themselves it’s almost like they know him already because of all of what you have told and have said about him just in normal conversation. If you are Jesus’ friend you will talk about him and you will tell others how good he’s been to you. If you are Jesus’ friend then you will spend time with him. You’ll come to his house, and He’ll be with you in yours. You’ll share it together. The Lord shared time with Enoch; he walked so close with him until he just took him. If you are Jesus’ friend, then you will love his house as David does in Psalms 26:8 he says, “I love the habitation of thy house.” If you are a friend of Jesus, your door will always be open to him, and he will come in and sup with you and you with him. When you spend time with Jesus in his house, he’ll reveal things to you like he did with his friend Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah. If you are his friend, you will love his house and while you are there in his house he will make known unto you the mysteries of the kingdom of God; but to others He will speak to them in parables; that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand. When your time on earth ends, you’ll be familiar with your father’s house and the willingness to be there will not be for the milk and honey, nor will you be looking for the streets of gold. You’ll be there because of your love for Jesus. If you are Jesus’ friend you cannot love him and the world at the same time. If you love the world you are his enemy. You are adulterers and adulteresses, (an adulterer is someone who has been unfaithful to their spouse) and if you are trying to love Jesus and the way of the devil, you will know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. If going to parties and other meaningless activities means more to you than coming to his father’s house then you are not his friend. If you are not his friend then you are his enemy, and your living is in vain. You are living for nothing. And death and hell are what you will receive when your days on earth are finished. In closing You may ask Jesus what do you need to do to be his friend? If you want to be his friend, then form a relationship with him. You need to keep his commands and that is to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” Be instant in season and out of season with the word. If you want to be his friend; feed the hungry. To become a friend of Jesus, give clothes to people who need them. If you want to be his friend, visit those in hospital. Visit those in jail or in prison. If you want to be his friend; give water to the thirsty. If you want to be his friend; pray for the church which is the body of Christ. If you want to be his friend; take up your cross, follow Jesus, and help someone else carry their cross. You need to give your life to Jesus. Live for him. Believe in him, get saved and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Let Jesus come into your heart and stop your sinful lifestyle. Live the way that his word teaches you to live. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Give God some of your time. It’s not too late. You are neither too young nor too old. There is nothing you have done in this life that God can’t forgive you for. Is Jesus your friend? Jesus wants to be your friend. But he can’t be your friend until you get to know him, but most of all you should form a relationship with him. Do things with him. Make him a part of your life. John 15:12-14 Jesus says, “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” Jesus being made a little lower than the angels. Taking on the likeness of sinful flesh, yielded himself to being crucified on the cross for you and for me. First he was arrested after eating supper with his friends. During his arrest they beat him, they spit on him. They stripped him of his seamless coat. They nailed him to a tree. They hung him up between two thieves. One of them didn’t believe on him but the other one he saved because he believed on him. He died a cruel death. He died until the sun refused to shine. He died until the earth began to quake. He died until the veil of the temple tore apart. He died until one of the government officials realized who he was and said, “surely is the son of God.” Then they took Jesus and wrapped him up in grave clothes and laid him in a borrowed tomb. They rolled a big stone over the doorway to keep him inside. While his body was resting from its earthly toil, in spirit, he went down into the belly of hell, and the grave. He reached back through eon of time, back to Adam and Eve, the beginning of all our roots. He preached to those spirits in the grave, those that were dead showing them who he was. He preached and showed them that he is the seed of David, he is the root of Abraham. He showed them that he is the bread that came down from heaven and that he was the one who fed them in the wilderness. He preached showing them that he was the rock hewed out of the mountain, and that he was the one that gave them living water to drink when they were thirsty in the wilderness, and he is the same rock that brought down Goliath of the Philistines. He preached until they saw that he was the light of the world. Those that believed came forth out of the graves after his resurrection; and witnessed about him to those in Jerusalem. When he finished preaching, he went and took the keys of death and the grave out of the hands of the enemy. When that was finished, God dispatched the Holy Ghost from his throne in Glory. The Holy Ghost came faster than the twinkle of the eye, he touched Jesus’ mortal body and quickened his spirit. The earth quaked because the host of God was working on earth. That rock that man placed over the tomb, they thought it would keep him inside, but it was rolled away by an angel of the host of God. It was not rolled away to let Jesus out, but it was rolled away to let man in to see that he is not there. Jesus was dead lying in that grave, but he is alive for ever. He has the power of both heaven and earth, he has the keys, the power, of both death and hell in his hands. To prove that he was finished he took his time leaving the tomb, and he folded the napkin that covered his face, and placed it in a corner. He walked out just before the women showed up, he was about to ascend to his father when Mary Magdalen saw him. He showed himself to her that he was alive. He showed himself to over 500 men and several time to his disciples. He ate fish and honeycomb with them to show them that he is not a ghost or some spirit, but that he is Jesus that conquered death in the battle for our spirit and soul and that he is risen from the dead. In his last sermon to those gathered he breathed on them and said “receive ye the Holy Ghost.” and he told them to go to Jerusalem and tarry until he sent them the Holy Ghost to dwell inside of them. Jesus then led them to the Mount of Olives, and he stepped from mortal into immortality, and he stepped on his transport from earth to heaven. Jesus left with them messengers, to tell them that he is coming back again with the same transportation that they saw him leave on. He is coming back looking to find his bride ready, watching and waiting for him. He is coming back to take us to his father’s house, to a place that he has built for us to live in for eternity. I’m offering to you today to form a relationship with Jesus. Come to him now, give your life to him. Let him know that you want to be with him in his kingdom.

Lost In The House

Lost in the house Luke 15:8-10 (Luke 15:8) Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. Five ways of being lost in the house The first way of Being lost in the house is when you are born into a Christian family and because your parents are saved you are thinking you are saved too. There is a generation of people that grew up going to church as children. They attended YPWW, Sunday School, and other church services but they never received the meaning of the messages. They know the songs of Zion. They know how to say the testimony speech. They never accepted Christ as their personal savior. Matthew 19:20-21 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. They are in the house, but they are lost. There are those that are lost in the house because their Houses are full of clutter, they are listening to too many teachers. They have too many different people giving them instructions. 2 Timothy 3:6,7 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, they are living in a house full of cluttered teachings. Many of our young people are living in houses full of clutter because they left home and went to college and were taught differently than they were at home. Those godless professors filled their heads with lies saying that the bible is a myth or it’s a fairytale and our children come back home with a head full of clutter and they won’t attend church because the learned something different in university or college. Revelation 2:13-16 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. They have more learning than their parents. They are in a house full of clutter, they are in the house, but they are lost. Titus 1:15-16 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. There are also those that got baptized as children, and they continue to go to church because of tradition and they think that going to church on Sunday morning is the right thing to do. They live a clean life, they obey the commands, believing they are saved when they are not. Luke 11:39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Mark 10:21-22 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. These too are lost in the house. Then you have those that attend church only when they feel like going. When it’s time to go to church they are too tired to get out of bed for some reason or another. They got saved and they believe in eternal security; they believe, once in Christ and never out. Luke 14:18-20 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. These are those that attend church only when they feel like going. These too are lost in the house. 1John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. They are in the house but they are lost. Then you have those that are in the house, but they are not having daily, regular, or personal bible study. Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. or it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. These are in the house but are lost. If you are going to remain in the house don’t get lost in the house or be out of place, do as these did. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Let’s look at the lost coin in our text. First, we have the woman. In my interpretation of this parable, she symbolizes the church’s leadership. In her, this parable shows the efforts, and the tools the church’s leaders uses in the search for lost souls. The woman has in her possession ten pieces of silver, a candle, and a broom. The second element of this parable is the ten silver coins (metaphorically speaking, these are the souls of ten individuals). The coin or the soul that has gotten lost is one that has become scratched or dented in some way. Harm to coins can happen when they are in a pocket or purse and are constantly rubbing against one another. While in constant contact or rubbing with someone that constant contact can become irritating and if it is pressed hard enough it can cause a dent in the relationship or a scratch on the soul which can cause an irritation, causing that coin or that soul to want some “me time,” some time for itself. So that coin or soul finds an occasion to drop out of service, by withdrawing itself from fellowshipping with the other nine: by getting away. And in so doing it finds a hideaway; in other words it gets lost; but it remains still in the house. The coins in our parable were made of silver. Let’s look at unrefined silver; it is not pretty. Unrefined silver does not get its luster until it has gone through the refiner’s fire. After refining, the silver is poured into a mold. And as it cools and in this case it is being made into a coin, and since it is a coin, then a seal, or an impression is put on it to show under what authority it was coined, and to show its denomination or its value. At one point in his ministry Jesus ask the congregates to look at a coin and tell him whose image was on it. Whoever the image is on the coin is whose dominion it belongs to. They are the ones who sets the value. If your soul has gone through the refinement of your spirit and has gotten the stamp, which is the image of God put on you, then you belong to Him. Otherwise, you haven't received an impression yet. In this parable the coin is lost, but it is somewhere in the house. Somehow the image of God can’t be seen on it. You claim to your coworkers that you are a Christian but your speech and the things you do around them betray your testimony. This suggest that in that situation the image of God is not shining through. The image is distorted, causing it to lose its perceived value, but to its owner, it still retains its value. Just because you lose a coin doesn't take away its value. If another person finds it, the coin still has its original value, the person who holds it has the value of the coin in their possession. The devil is the thief, or the holder of the lost silver coin, in this case the coin is the souls of man, that he stole from God. He stole man out of the Garden of Eden. He hid man under the filth of sin in the darkness of the world, but he couldn't hide him from the sight of God. The devil placed the lost coin or the soul of man in his pawn shop. The devils pawn shop is called sin. And then he consigned an enormous price tag on him as a redemption price. God loves us so much until He paid the enormous price to redeem the lost silver coin which is the soul of man back to Him. God sent his son, the candle in my parable, the light of His word; to illuminate our way back to Him via the expense of the cross. Then we come to the third element of this parable which is the Candle. The candle represents the light or the truth of God's word. The candle brings light into the dark places of man's heart and soul. The light from the candle or from the word of God, reveals hidden issues in men’s lives. The light from the candle, the truth of God's word can cause men to turn toward the truth of the significance of the cross. (Hebrews 4:12-13) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature (no man or any lost coin) that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. The candle or the word of God shines everywhere. There is no place the devil can hide you, and there is no place you can hide yourself from God. For the eyes of God are in every place beholding the evil and the good. This brings us up to the third element in this parable which is the broom used to sweep. You may want to stop me here and tell me that there is no broom mentioned in this parable; and you are right, no broom is mentioned; but the movement of the broom is. In my opinion the broom represents the work of the Holy Ghost. I think the broom represents the purifying work of the Holy Ghost in the house stirring up the soul, turning it upside-down so to speak, as the dust on the floor is stirred. The sweeping of the broom could be looked at as the forerunner of conversion, because sometimes it stirs up the fallacy of those old wife tales, it uncovers the secret sins in the heart of men. Sometimes the sweeping of the broom or the work of the Holy Ghost disturbs the comfort of the home by stirring up an illness in the body, by disturbing the finances of the home, or by bringing bereavement into the home, this stirring up at times brings about conversion. Trouble can bring people closer to Christ. After the sweeping is done and the light from the candle shines upon that lost coin, it brings about joy for the seeker: for the lost silver coin, which is that lost soul; has been found. The woman in this parable cannot contain that joy alone. She has to share her joy with her friends and neighbors so they can rejoice with her. The same rejoicing is going on in heaven over the repentant heart of a sinner. It brings joy to the heart of God and that joy is shared through the rejoicing of the angels of God in heaven. This brings us to element four of the parable, which is the house. Unlike the houses we have today, the floors of the house at that time were not covered with carpet or tile. They were clay or dirt. As you walk on dirt, even though it is packed down it still stirs up lots of dust. Those houses had few or no windows. Therefore, even if the search was taking place at noonday there was a need for the light from a lamp or a candle. When the coin was dropped it must have gotten covered with dust concealing it from sight. In order to find the coin the woman first lit a candle, thinking that maybe the light shining on it would reveal the sparkle that it had, showing where it had fallen. When that didn't work, she decided to get out the broom and stir up the dust. You can be in the house and still be lost. You may think that your position or title you have in the house or in the church organization you are in will save you, but titles and positions are going to send more folk to hell than you expect. The house represents the covering or the organization she was in. The woman lost the coin in the house. She didn't lose it outside somewhere; it was lost in the house. She didn't drop it in the well or on the road somewhere where she had no chance of recovering it, it was lost in the house. The point here is that the soul of the sinner, who lost silver coin is recoverable and still has intrinsic value no matter where the loss occurs. Isaiah 50:2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? Isaiah 59:1-3 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. When you can read the rest of Isaiah 59 do so. You as a person may think that because you are in the house or under a covering or part of a church organization, that you are safe or saved from your sins, you may not know that you are lost because you are in the house or under a certain covering. The covering or the church organization that you are in will not keep you from being lost. In order to be saved or not lost you as that silver coin, have to have the seal of God or you have to have the stamp or the image of God on you, you have to belonged in His domain, you’ve got to know the Lord Jesus. In Matthews 7 beginning in verse 21 this is On the day of reconning when you stand before the judgement seat of God and Jesus says, “depart from me, ye that work iniquity, (iniquity is immoral or ungodly behavior) I know you not”. Jesus said in (Matthew 7:21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, (these that are speaking are those that are in the house but are lost), shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. You may ask, “what is the will of the Father? I’m glad you asked, the will of the Father is found in (2 Peter 3:9d) …(God is) not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Repent means you have turned away from your immoral and ungodly behavior and have gotten to know His son Jesus and have a personal relationship with him. And that personal relationship with him is found in (Matthew 25:31-46) When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Now he starts speaking to them that were in the house or part of an organization but are lost. Luke 13:25-27 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. These are those that attended church out of habit or tradition, and they didn’t get the Lord into their hearts. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. These are those that were in the house but didn’t know that they were lost. (Matthew 25:41) Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? They are saying this because they were in the house or the organization with the title of choir member, usher, deacon, or whatever position they may have held and didn’t have a personal relationship with him. They were good people, but just because you are a good person, who does not develop a personal relationship with Jesus. They are in the house, but you are lost. Matthew 7:22-28) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able because they are lost but still in the house. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. You were in the house, but you were lost. That brings us to the sixth element of this parable. The sixth element are the friends and neighbors, and they represent the host of God, those angels that rejoice along with God after that lost coin or that lost soul has been found or after that sinner has repented. In our times, friends and neighbors have shut themselves away from one another. We have stopped going to church. We have stopped rejoicing because few are repenting of their sins. We don’t know of the hunger or thirst that our friends or neighbors have, and if by chance we do find out, we don’t give them food from our pantry we send them to a food bank or somewhere else to get food and drink. We can see those that need clothes, and your closets are stuffed with clothes you haven’t worn in years, and you still shut up your bowels of compassion and tell them to go to the Salvation Army or to Goodwill. God sees what is happening in these last and evil days, and He is still recording our deeds. But we also have the concluding element, which is the lost coin, that soul of man. Man is compared to the precious metal of silver. In God's sight, man is precious. Look at the price He paid for our redemption. Look at what he went through to seek and save us, the lost. It took the suffering and the death of His only begotten son to redeem us from the pawn shop of the devil and from hell. Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. He stepped off his throne in glory to bring to us redemption story. He prepared a body and came in the likeness of sinful flesh. He lived a sinless life, turned water into wine. He fed people with fish and bread. He cast out devils, healed the lepers, opened blind eyes, caused the lame to walk and the dumb to talk, he forgave sin. Somebody, agents of the devil, didn’t like what he did, so they arrested him and held a mock trial. They thought they put him to death, but I heard him say in his own words in (John 10:17,18) Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. He laid down his life for that sheep that was lost, he laid down his life for that lost coin or lost soul of man, he laid down his life for that prodigal person so that they who believed could have life and that life is eternal. You have an opportunity to come to Jesus now. The light is turned on and you can’t hide, and neither can the devil hide you. You may be lost in the house, but now the Lord has put the devil out and he has come in swept and garnished your house, your life, and found you under the dust of your sins. You should be thankful unto him and bless his name for he has been good to you and have found you where you were.
