Bread And Water Diet
Bread And Water Diet
Jesus is coming back
Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
John 3:2, 3 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
(Exodus 23:25) And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
(Matthew 5:6) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
John 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Bread And Water Diet
My intention today is to show you why you should go on a diet of bread and water.
Today’s thought is A Diet of Bread and Water
What is a diet? A diet is the daily food and drink of a person. Jesus was concerned about our diet in Matthew 6: 11-Give us this day our daily bread. A diet is something used to help you lose or gain weight, sometimes enjoyed and sometimes not so much. So, what is a bread and water diet? It is a daily intake of bread and water. I am going to be talking about a spiritual intake of bread and water.
(John 6:35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
If you have had your come to Jesus moment, he is all you will need in so far as a spiritual diet, for he said, he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Some of you have had a craving or a hunger for something that you didn’t know what you are hungry for. I want to let you know that Jesus is or could be what you are craving. He said to us that he is the bread of life, and if you eat of him you will never be hungry any more.
Let me paraphrase a dialog of a meeting Jesus had with some of the Jews. He brought to their attention the time of their fathers wandering in the wilderness when they became hungry and began to mummer to Moses. Moses prayed to God and God gave them bread from heaven. After eating this bread they were hungry for more even the next day. They ate of that bread and were hungry again. Then Jesus said but God has now sent you the true bread of heaven, and if you eat this true bread from heaven it will fill that desire that you constantly have. Your soul will be satisfied. But you can’t just take a piece of this bread, in order for it to be beneficial to you; you have to eat the whole roll.
There are several types of bread you can get in the store. Bread range from white to dark, flat to raised loaf, you can get wheat and whole grain bread, corn bread, oat and rice bread, sourdough and French bread. Some bread is considered healthy while others are not but they are all bread. So in the natural life you have an assortment of many types of bread that you can choose from. But on the spiritual side the choice is not as plentiful but it is more accessible and is more satisfying. You can’t find it on the grocery store shelf but if you look for it in God’s storehouse you will find it. It won’t have a labeled on it, and it won’t come prepackaged, like many people try to present it, but when you see this true bread, you will recognize it as Jesus, the true bread, available everywhere. It comes with the seal of approval from God. Look at (John 6:27) Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Some folk hate it, but to others it is better than anything they have never had.
Bread is only part of the diet, the other part of this diet is water.
As with the variety of breads; the same thing holds true with water; it also comes in a variety. The most common water we know is the home tap water. Nowadays, you have bottled water, which comes in an assortment of presentations. They come to you as distilled water, filtered water, purified and mineral water. You have spring, well, and rain water. You have sparkling and flavored water; all of these are sold to satisfy your thirst while 71% of the earth is covered by water.
Water is vital for all forms of life. Water moves constantly through a cycle of evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and runoff. Runoff is where water flows back into the oceans and begins the cycle all over. Evaporation and transpiration is what causes it to rain over the land.
Go with me to John the fourth chapter and let’s start at verse number 7.
Jesus had a conversation about water with a woman of Samaria. And it says…
(John 4:7) There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
There is nothing that can quench a thirst like water can. You can drink all the Gatorade or Cokes that you can handle but in the end you are still thirsty for water. Once you get a drink of water you are contented. Jesus being tired and thirsty from his journey sat here at Jacob’s well near the city until a Samaritan woman approached.
(John 4:8) (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
That nearby city is Sychar. Now after Jesus had asked this Samaritan woman for some water listen to what she said.
(John 4:9) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Pre judging can cause you to miss out on many good occasions. The bible say to be careful how you entertain strangers for some have entertained angels unaware. This woman didn’t know with whom she was speaking and because of her own lifestyle, I think she may have supposed Jesus to have been one of her past one night stands and not wanting to be bothered at the moment she spoke prejudicially to him in haste just to shut him up.
This encounter was a bit unusual because the Jews would normally go out of their way to avoid coming in contact with the people of Samaria. This is like some of you holier than thou church going folk; you won’t associate with or be close friends with people of another denomination or someone with a record for fear of contamination. So you’ll go way out of your way to avoid any type of contact with them. The question is, are they going to contaminate you or are you going to contaminate them? I think it’s because you don’t know fully what you believe so you avoid having any contact nor do you wish to discuss anything especially the word with these these people. But Jesus wasn’t illogical nor did he jump to conclusions, he knew who he was…
(John 4:10) Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Do you know the gift of God? If not, you can find it in John 3:16 God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son. If you know who it is speaking to your heart right now then you would be reaching out to him and asking him for a drink of this living water and its saving grace.
People respond many times ignorantly to situations, as this woman did. Jesus knew just what to say to arouse her curiosity by saying if you only knew. People don’t like not knowing. If you don’t believe that then attend one of the church’s business meetings. Then he continued with who it is that’s asking you for water. The woman didn’t know that Jesus was the source of water to millions of her own people in the wilderness for many years. (1 Corinthians 10:4) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
He said had you asked me for some water, I would have freely given you living water…
(John 4:11) The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?...
Sometime it is best to keep silent and be thought a fool than it is to speak and remove all doubt. Let’s look at this conversation a little closer. The woman said Sir you have nothing to draw with. What she couldn’t see was the cord or the rope of compassion that Jesus was using to draw her near to salvation. She could not feel the bands of hatred that Jesus was breaking off her that were binding her to the racial schism that stood between them. So she keeps on talking and she said unto him, the well is deep. What she didn’t know was that Jesus’ hand is not so short that it cannot save. No matter how deep she or even you today are in sin, Jesus could and can still reach her and you. She didn’t know that if he had to reach way way down that he could still reach her and pick her up. She didn’t know that his ear was not so heavy that he could hear; not only what her mouth was saying but also he could hear what her heart was saying.
She said to him from whence hast thou that living water. She didn’t see a water pitcher or anything else that could draw or hold water. So she didn’t know that Jesus was a well of living water springing up into life eternal. Then she continued to talk…
(John 4:12) Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?(John 4:13) Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: …
Woman this water that you are talking about goes through a cycle and you get thirsty for it every day. Then he continued with…
(John 4:14) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
I see a problem with the water of the church today; too many of the people have been in the water, in other words they have been baptized, but they haven’t gotten the water into them, they haven’t drank it or really believed.
Let’s get back to our diet of bread and water.
A diet of bread and water in the natural life is not very yummy, but it is life sustaining. You can live a long time on bread and water. On a diet of bread and water in the natural you would lose lots of weight, your muscles would get weak but you would make it. Of this I am a living witness. Bread and water is sometimes used as a punishment in the military. However this diet of bread and water for the spiritual man is rewarding and it fattens up his spiritual man and makes him strong.
I’m here to tell you about the true bread and the living water. The true bread came to us from heaven. The true bread that was sent from heaven to earth is the bread that was made without hands. You have to really be hungry and thirsty for this bread in order to be filled. If you do not hunger and thirst here, you will hunger and thirst when it is too late.
If we do not thirst here for that living water, we shall thirst when it is too late.
If we do not thirst here, we will thirst as Dives did, just for a drop of water, we shall thirst when it is too late.
True bread is made with flour and water. The flour and water are kneaded together until dough is formed. I’m not going to say the flour can never be separated from the water again, but if you could the process would be difficult.
Dough is not actually bread. It becomes bread when it is placed in the oven and a process of heat binds them together.
Flour is a seed that has been crushed to a powder like consistency. Whether the seed is wheat, corn, or oats; it is crushed to become flour, it is compressed until it takes on a powder like texture.
Whatever the grain; it contains all the elements of that seed. When that seed becomes flour; the flour has all the elements of the seed that was in it before it became flour.
That’s the reason that Jesus said I am the true bread. Because he knew that the enemy was corrupting the bread by removing the elements that are need to be beneficial. The enemy was making the bread gluten free and bleaching it killing all the elements that make it wholesome and he was adding foreign elements to it. The enemy adds yeast to the flour making it rise. The enemy would add sugar to the flour to make it sweet. The enemy would add salt to the flour to give it a savory flavor. So Jesus had to differentiate between the true bread from the false.
The true bread comes from the seed that has been crushed into flour with living water added. The flour is the seed that has been crushed to be made into bread. (Luke 8:11) Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The word of God is Jesus. St John 1:1
Let me show you how that seed which is Jesus, became the bread. In order to do this, I have to explain also the other element which is the living water.
Water is two part hydrogen, and one part oxygen. That’s where you get the H2O. These elements have to remain together (as one) in order to be water. This reminds me of the trinity; the Father and the Word as the hydrogen part, and the Holy Ghost as the oxygen. These have to remain bound together to be God. For He said there are three that bears the record in heaven; the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and there three are one. (One God).
When the water is introduced to the seed it kills it and then it causes new life to enter in. Without the water the seed would remain a seed, but when water is added it takes on a new body.
Now Jesus as the Word, in heaven, was given a body (the seed) and he was planted in the earth, into the womb of Mary. The bible says and he grew in favor with God and man.
As the seed, Jesus was crushed by the Pharisees, and ground by the Sadducees into flour. The water was added at the Jordan River by John the Baptist. He was kneaded into dough by the scribes. Placed in the oven by the Jews and the heat was added by the Romans. As they watched him go from dough to bread, they pierce him with nails to keep him down. They stabbed him with the spear to keep him from rising. And when he had become the true bread of life, that we know today, he cried out from the cross, Father it is finished. In other words, I am done. And the word is true where he said, If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me. Men normally come to where bread is being served. If you are offering the true bread from heaven, you don’t have to worry about members, because men are hungry for the true bread. But the prophet Amos said in chapter 8 verse 11, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
Let us go on this diet of bread and water for the sake of the world.
God said, I have heard the murmurings of my children: they are hungry for bread; tell them, in the morning they shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
Tell them they shall serve the LORD God, and I shall bless their bread, and their water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of them.
Woman and Man I urge you to go on this diet of this true bread and this living water and it will make you whole.
Tell them to go on a diet of bread and water and it will help them lose that weight of sin that so easily get them in trouble with God.
Tell them to go on a diet of bread and water and let it flush out that cancer that’s consuming them.
Tell them to go on a diet of bread and water and they will not have the problems that causes sickness in their life anymore for the bible said this diet will take sickness and disease from among them.
Eat this bread and drink this living water until that spirit of idolatry and coveting are cast out from your life.
Drink this living water until it overflows from your soul and washes your child out of the crack house and into the house of God.
Drink this living water until it wash out the filthiness of the flesh and cleanse sin from your home, drink till it wash out the taste of alcohol and drugs, drink until you become drunk or spiritually intoxicated.
Drink this living water until it cleanse away hatred for others out of your heart; drink until your whole household gets drenched with the living water springing up from your soul.
Go on a diet of bread and water and stay on it until that dry spell in your life gets refreshed, drink this living water until that somnolent spirit that is over the church gets revived. Stay on a diet of bread and water until your soul gets saturated and satisfied. Stay on it till you are filled with power from on high.
Go on this diet of bread and water until the judge changes his mind in your case. Stay on a diet of bread and water till the doctor can’t find the disease he saw.
Go on this diet of bread and water until that living water sweep sinners into the church to ask for forgiveness of sin and to be saved.
This diet of bread and water will quench the fires of fornication and adultery that are burning in your life.
This diet of bread and water will cause you as it did King David to taste and see that the LORD is good: This diet of bread and water will cause your mouth to praise the Lord with joyful lips: and to say How sweet thy words unto my taste are! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Jesus said I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eats of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
And he said, “It is done.” I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
You can’t take a piece of this bread and walk around with it in your hand taking a bite here and there because you don’t have your mind on eating. You need to come to the table and eat a meal with him. If you are not at the table you can’t have fellowship with your sisters and brothers. Walking around with true bread is not encouraged because you need the protection of God that he has prepared for you in the presence of your enemies.
When the Lord came by your well in your Samaria, you were not there; when he called, you didn’t answer him; his hand is not shortened, that it cannot redeem? And he has power to deliver.
If you refuse to go on this diet of bread and water you will end up like Dives did asking for somebody to just put a drop of water on your scorching tongue.
The bible says, blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. If you are thirsty the word says, Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the living waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat this true bread of heaven; yea, come, buy without money and without price.
Today you are in a desolate dry place in your life. You are afraid to die but you don’t want to live. You are dying in your sins, you have drifted far from God, and you are far away from the peaceful shore and you are far from the Word of God. The enemy thinks he has you. You are sinking to rise no more but the master of the seas, he sees you in your distress and he hears your pleading cry and from the waters he can lift you, and you can be saved by his power divine save to new life’s sublime.
Examine yourself to see if your carnal self is overweight. Get on the scale of the Word to see if your carnal body is heavier than your spiritual body.
If you are ready to go on this diet of bread and water stand up on your feet, step out into the aisle and step into that living water that is flowing like a river toward the altar and come to Jesus; for he is waiting for you.
Come while the blood is running warm in your veins. Come while he is talking to your heart. If you want to be saved come to Jesus now. Come while he is in our midst. Come on while you can hear his call because tomorrow may be too late. Death is all around us. Disaster is striking every moment of every day.
You if you are not saved from your sins you are not safe from the destruction that is coming. But if you partake of this diet of bread and water diet right now, you that are sick, sickness will flee from you, you that are broken in heart he will fix your brokenness. If you partake of this bread and water diet now he will destroy the (burden) yoke that is so heavy, he will break the chains and fetters that are binding your progress.
Let Jesus fix it for you, he knows just what to do. Whenever you pray, let him have his way, and he will make new that which has gotten old. He will send living water upon the dry places in your life.
Turn it over to Jesus, turn it all over to Jesus, just turn it all over to Jesus and he will make everything alright.
You can’t keep hanging on to your problem and situations and think it’s going to be fixed. You’ve got to let go of it and turn it over to the Lord. When you put it in Jesus’ hand he will fix and make new what the enemy has broken in your life. When you put it in his hands he will fix it, when you put it in his hands it will come out alright, alright, alright, when you put it in his hand he’ll make everything alright.
You may be homeless with nowhere to go and with no one to call a friend; you may not have a good pair of shoes to put on your feet nor decent clothes to put on your back. Your stomach may often be empty, but if you turn it over to the Lord; he will supply your every need according to his riches in glory.
There are a lot of hungry and thirsty people here. Let’s give them what they need. Let’s offer them the bread which is Jesus, let’s give them to drink of this living water which is salvation.
Prayer changes things so…
Let’s pray.
